“The Tor Project was a creation of the state that ended up becoming one of the few effective shields against the state’s surveillance.” – Snowden
The Onion Router, or Tor, is a network comprising thousands of servers run by volunteers that protects your privacy by hiding your IP address and activities on the internet. It’s an important tool for online privacy and freedom of expression in a digital age.
Not only does it make your searches more private, but it also allows you to access webpages on the dark web that aren’t available to regular browsers. While the dark web is notorious for being a hotbed of illicit/illegal activity, it is also used by whistleblowers, activists or political dissidents to anonymously distribute information. Tor is a great tool for all kinds of people, even everyday people who want to protect their personal data from advertisers and mass surveillance. The word “volunteer” always gets my attention.
Who does something without getting something in return?
Who will verify the volunteers sincerity? But also – who will verify the verification?
I might use such a system, but I wouldn’t trust it any more then any other.
