The GMO Scrapbook: Glyphosate: It’s Much Worse Than We Thought

I had fully intended this blog to come out yesterday, to follow Monday’s first blog, but the fire at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris happened, as as I said, I didn’t really think blogging yesterday, as if nothing had happened, wouldn’t be fitting. Many people have sent in further articles and thoughts about it, asking me what I think. I may or may not eventually collect my thoughts into some sort of coherent pile and blog about them, or perhaps talk about them in a webinar, but for the moment I will keep those to myself.

Today’s article was sent in by several people, and it’s one of those things we’ve got to talk about. since it’s an article by one of my favorite researchers, F. William Engdahl:

What caught my eye here were two things:

In a long-term animal study by French scientists under Gilles Eric Seralini, Michael Antoniou and associates, it was demonstrated that even ultra-low levels of glyphosate herbicides cause non-alcoholic liver disease. The levels the rats were exposed to, per kg of body weight, were far lower than what is allowed in our food supply. According to the Mayo Clinic, today, after four decades or more pervasive use of glyphosate pesticides, 100 million, or 1 out of 3 Americans now have liver disease. These diagnoses are in some as young as 8 years old.

But glyphosate is not only having alarming effects on human health. Soil scientists are beginning to realize the residues of glyphosate application are also having a possibly dramatic effect on soil health and nutrition, effects that can take years to restore.

While most attention is understandably drawn to the human effects of exposure to glyphosate, the most widely used agriculture chemical in the world today, independent scientists are beginning to look at another alarming effect of the agrochemical– its effect on essential soil nutrients. In a study of the health of soils in the EU, the online journal Politico.eu found that the effects of spraying of glyphosate on the major crops in European agriculture is having disastrous consequences on soil health in addition to killing weeds.

Scientists at Austria’s University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna showed that casting activity of earthworms had nearly disappeared from the surface of farmland within three weeks of glyphosate application. Casting is the process of the worm pushing fertile soils to the surface as they burrow, essential for healthy soil and plant nutrition. A study at Holland’s Wageningen University of topsoil samples from more than 300 soil sites across the EU found that 83% of the soils contained 1 or more pesticide residues. Not surprisingly, “Glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA, DDTs (DDT and its metabolites) and broad-spectrum fungicides… were the compounds most frequently found in soil samples and at the highest concentrations.”

Evidence of soil experts is beginning to reveal clear links between use of pesticides such as glyphosate and dramatic drops in soil fertility and the collapse of microbe systems essential to healthy soil. Worms are one of the most essential.

It’s well-established that earthworms play a vital role in healthy soil nutrients. Soils lacking such are soils that deprive us of the essentials we need for healthy diets, a pandemic problem of soil depletion emerging globally over the past four decades, notably the same time frame that use of pesticides has exploded worldwide. Earthworms are beneficial as they enhance soil nutrient cycling and enhance other beneficial soil micro-organisms, and the concentration of large quantities of nutrients easily assimilable by plants.

The EU puts no limits on how much glyphosate can be put on crops even though it is established that glyphosate can kill specific fungi and bacteria that plants need to suck up nutrients in addition to its effects on earthworms. That is a major blind spot.

So there you have it: glyphosate not only is now linked to non-alcoholic liver disease, which according to Mayo research is now afflicting one out of three Americans, inclusive of children, it is also destroying soil nutrients, microbes, and earthworms. We should have seen this one coming, of course, because a few years ago I blogged about a University of Iowa study of the yield-per-acre of GMO versus non-GMO crops. You might recall that the Iowa study concluded that yields of GMO fields went down over time, while costs rose, whereas the non-GMO fields maintained yields  and lower costs over time.

I suspected then, and these recent studies now appear to confirm, that the soil itself was being adversely affected by the whole GMO boondoggle. What was utterly lacking ab initio with the whole GMO-glyphosate technology was, of course, proper long-term inter-generational studies of the environmental and health effects, a study that it will be recalled only the Russian Federation pointed out was lacking, and which it not only intended to conduct, but it will also be recalled that the Russian Federation has prohibited GMOs, while the neighboring Ukraine went full GMO; indeed, forgotten in the whole mess in The Ukraine was the acquisition of special port facilities for GMO companies.

Normally, of course, my habit is to indulge in a bit of high octane speculation at this juncture, but today, I’ll defer to Mr. Engdahl’s own implied speculations, because I happen to agree with him. He states:

What is becoming clearer is the colossal and obviously deliberate official blind eye given to potential dangers of glyphosate-based pesticides by regulatory bodies not only in the EU and the USA, but also in China, which today produces more glyphosate than even Monsanto. Since the Monsanto Roundup patent expired, Chinese companies, including Syngenta, Zhejiang Xinan Chemical Industrial Group Company, SinoHarvest, and Anhui Huaxing Chemical Industry Company, have emerged as the world’s major producers of the chemical as well as largest consumers, a not good omen for the future of the legendary Chinese cuisine.

Glyphosate is the base chemical component for some 750 different brands of pesticides worldwide, in addition to Monsanto-Bayer’s Roundup. Glyphosate residues have been found in tap water, orange juice, children’s urine, breast milk, chips, snacks, beer, wine, cereals, eggs, oatmeal, wheat products, and most conventional foods tested. It’s everywhere, in brief.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, however, EU Commission bureaucrats and the USA EPA continue to ignore prudence in not banning the toxic chemical pending thorough independent investigation over longer time. If I were cynical, I would almost think this continued official support for glyphosate-based herbicides is about more than mere bureaucratic stupidity or ignorance, even more than simply corruption, though that for sure plays a role. The nutritional quality of our food chain is being systematically destroyed and it is about more than corporate agribusiness profit. (Emphasis added)

The question, if the nutritional value not only of the food but of the soil itself is being deliberately destroyed (and for reasons other than “corporate agribusiness profit”) is why? And I suspect most regular readers here share the same suspicions that I have: we’re being made to pay for our own poisoning by governments no longer interested in the welfare of their own people, who view them simply as “marks” to be fleeced and cattle to be slaughtered. The one bright ray of sunshine in the whole mess is that Bayer, or as I like to call it, I.G. Farbensanto, is being made to pay for the damage its products are inflicting, and that damage is no longer confined to humans, but the soil itself. And in that, there are even more potentials for class action lawsuits, not only from farmers, but from governments themselves, should any of them ever choose to wake up.

Just like Dr. Brogan’s A Mind Of Your Own, the following book is one that the mainstream media won’t touch.  The data provided is too important, too thought-provoking, too paradigm shifting for the mainstream press to get involved, which is why it will take a grassroots effort to get the information out there.  And it will get out there.

Within the alternative media there are many people putting out great information.  Then, there are others who have raised the bar of credibility a bit higher.  Mike Adams is one of the latter.

Food Forensics is a veritable dissertation into many of the dangers we as individuals face in respect to the myriad toxins that people are subjected to within food.   Those data point are why this book shines.

Adams takes a methodical approach outlining the many dangers involved with the foods that he’s tested in a manner that is sensible, responsible, and credible.

All the information provided might seem shocking to some, but unfortunately this is definitely ‘par for the course’ given the relentless onslaught of toxins we face in our daily lives from establishment corporations et al.

Throughout each page, the reader can certainly follow the concern that Adams has for the noxious substances some people are exposing themselves too.

The book is laid out in a pretty straight forward no-nonsense way.  Adams provides more than ample information that can be digested [no pun intended] by the reader and thoroughly pondered.  It’s really a vital issue  given how many people are being exposed to these deleterious substances.

Topics covered within the first part of the book are heavy metals such Aluminum, Lead, Mercury and more, chemical contaminants such as Bisphenol A [BPA], food toxins such as Aspartame, MSG, molecular alteration of food, and much more.

The second part of the book features how individuals can detox, while the third part details extensive data regarding all sorts of food and toxins.  After reading this part individuals will think twice about many of the foods that out there.

As individuals, it’s imperative to be proactive and boycott ALL BUSINESSES that that will put their profits over your health.  Not only that, but we need to let others know what’s wrong.  This is too important not to spark fires of curiosity in other individuals.

How the health of our society looks many years from now will be highly dependent on what proactive and inquisitive individuals inform themselves about.  Books such as this make it possible not only to harpoon core issues that affect all of us, but also sets the template for how to live an inherently healthier life.

Eat To Beat Disease – Food’s Medicinal Qualities by Catherine J. Frompovich is a phenomenal foray into the alternative side of health.  Specifically, the alternative side to medicinal properties of foods.

Although that statement might seem rather foreign to those who follow only mainstream health, in fact it’s not.  According to an article on NaturalNews, as much as 80% of the known world still uses ancient medicines made from Plants & Botanicals.  Sure, this book deals with food, but both this book and the article deal with natural medicine that the mainstream establishment doesn’t even acknowledge most of the time, if at all.

Eat To Beat Disease is a significant book that features an extensive and in-depth look into the pros and cons of many foods people have in their daily diets.

Mincing no words, Frompovich gets to the heart of the matter as she states:

“…there are literally thousands of toxic chemicals that legally can beand areplaced into the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.  Furthermore, even the U.S. Food and Drug Administration doesn’t know what some of those chemicals are thanks to the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 loopholes!”[1][Bold & Underline Emphasis Added.]

That’s a scary proposition if there ever were one.  Such is the nature of the beast we as a society face.

In fact, Frompovich goes out of her way to show a rather intriguing, if troubling timeline of the extensive poisoning that our supply has been under for nigh 150 years [if not longer].  This is helpful because it speaks at length of the issue of our deteriorating soil and the fact that vitamins and minerals are being depleted from the soul due to the events discussed within the books.

Other issues discussed by Frompovich included those with prescription drugs, the rampant rise in disease, health issues that are trending, as well as issues with intestines and bowel movements.   The author touches upon these subjects rather saliently showing why each is vital to know about.

Probiotics and prebiotics are also given a cursory glance, as are artificial sweeteners and their ramifications.  Also discussed are issues that revolve around sugar, which is a rather underreported topic by the mainstream establishment.   It’s quite unfortunate, because sugar is one of the biggest fuels in cancer, and most people do not know this.

In any case, Frompovich also covers foods that can help reduce pain, which was rather useful.  As someone who suffered greatly from inflammation for nigh two decades due to intestinal conditions but overcame it with diet and lifestyle changes, the fact that Frompovich gives ways of dealing with pain in a natural way is something that’s greatly appreciated by me.

A short section, but jam-packed with info in the book is called, “Which Foods Help The Body Most In Managing Certain Diseases”.  This section touches upon some of the foods that are helpful in combating issues with blood pressure, cancer, cholesterol, diabetes, heart, the immune system, and stroke.

Other health issues that Frompovich gives a fair nod to are Gallbladder [Disease & Stones], Hypothyroidism, Glaucoma, Obesity and Weight Loss.

Additionally, the book includes a chapter that touches upon HPV Vaccine Reactions and what individuals can do when implementing proper nutrition.  This might be highly helpful for individuals that have dealt with this.

Thereafter, the author covers the importance of B-Complex Vitamin, benefits of fermented foods, and also problems with genetically modified foods which are rampant these days.

Featured also in the book are countless resources that people can use to learn more information about these subjects.  This was also highly valuable given the importance of the subject.

Besides all of this, the author covers so much more.  In all fairness, a few sections of the book could be longer, but this is because the author is taking a broad brush approach to cover as much as possible within the arena of nutritional health.  There is an incredible amount of information out there.  With that in mind, the information provided does give enough of a launching pad for individuals to begin taking charge of their health, which is one of the premises of this book.

One more important point: Frompovich – thankfully! – footnoted the book extensively, which is how ALL books should be done, at the bottom of each page, like it used to be done in olden times (don’t even get me started on this).

Unfortunately, newer footnoting techniques have changed extensively from how books were written centuries ago.  Forgoing footnotes is a way of soft censorship; this censorship of data prevents people from accessing information, by (1) either making it harder to find, or (2) simply not even having the information available in most cases.  The fact that most ebooks don’t even have footnotes speaks to this VERY issue, which is vital importance, especially for those who value knowledge and research.

Apologies for the tangent, it’s just that as a researcher its highly valuable when people footnote their sources within their book, or articles.

Eat To Beat Disease is a veritable template for the many ways individuals can employ nutrition to conquer disease.  It’s the type of book that should be discussed at length in society, and by the mainstream press, but will not any coverage due to the ramifications and the profits it would ‘steal’ from Big Pharma, Big Medica and Big Food.  That fact alone should make proactive and mindful individuals weary since optimal health methods should be something to strive for, or at least discussed.

When one keeps in mind the above constellation of facts and more, this book is invaluable and should become part of your library.

The Truth Behind The Toxic & Dangerous Sweetener Aspartame

For quite a long time there has been much speculation and suspicion regarding the true nature of aspartame.

With that said, there has been a preponderance of evidence that has seeped through and come forth into a totality of undeniable facts that cannot be ignored any longer.

Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods.

Over a billion people consume aspartame in their foods and beverages across the world, believing it to be a safe ingredient, but what they probably don’t know is that aspartame currently accounts for over 75% of all side effects complaints received by the FDA’s Adverse Reaction Monitoring System [ARMS] at one point in time.

Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death. A few of the different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: Headaches/migraines, dizziness, birth defects, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

The FDA knows 92 potential side effects, which were submitted to them on April 20th 1995 by the Department of Health & Human Services, for aspartame.

At one point, Aspartame was even considered by the Department of Defense [DOD] as a potential biological-warfare neurotoxin.

Besides knowing this, Donald Rumsfeld pushed it out into the stores in over 5,000 at the time when he was CEO of Searly, which eventually was sold to the multi-national Monsanto.  The number of products in which Aspartame is included has increased to approximately 6000 since then.   As many of you may know, Monsanto is a completely other monster that is part of the global food-control scheme and was also named the worst company of 2011.

Aspartame and/or many products which contain it have been banned all over the world

Aspartame is best known by the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Sweet One and Spoonful.  This toxic compound is also used in Extra Gum,, Diet Pepsi, SlimFast, Diet Coke, Orbit Gum, Juicy Fruit, Gavison, Splenda, as well as many other products.

Aspartame is asynthetic chemical combination which is comprised of approximately 50% phenylalanine, 40% aspartic acid, and 10% methanol. Aspartame is found in thousands of foods, drinks, candy, gum, vitamins, health supplements and even pharmaceuticals.

Each of the three ingredients in Aspartame poses its own dangers and each is well documented as causing a long list of side effects and dangerous health conditions. Watch for the ingredient Acesulfame Potassium, which is just another name for Aspartame.  Also keep in mind a cousin of Aspartame, which goes by the name of Neotame.

Phenylalanine: Even a single use of Aspartame raises the blood phenylalanine levels. High blood phenylalanine can be concentrated in parts of the brain and isespecially dangerous for infants and fetuses. Because it is metabolized much more efficiently by rodents than humans, testing and research on rats alone is not sufficient enough to denounce the dangers of Aspartame for human consumption. Excessive levels of phenylalanine in the brain cause serotonin levels to decrease, leading to emotional disorders like depression.

Aspartic Acid: Aspartic acid is considered anexcito-toxin, which means it over stimulates certain neurons in the body until they die. Much like nitrates and MSG, aspartic acid can cause amino acid imbalances in the body and result in the interruption of normal neurotransmitter metabolism of the brain.

Methanol becomes Formaldehyde [Embalming fluid]: The most prominent danger of Aspartame is that when ingested, the methanol [wood alcohol] is distributed throughout the body, including the brain, muscle, fat and nervous tissues, and is then metabolized to form formaldehyde, which enters cells and binds to proteins and genetic material [DNA]. Methanol is a dangerous neurotoxin and a known carcinogen, which causes retinal damage in the eye, interferes with DNA processes, and can cause birth defects.

According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, ‘We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison”. Dr. Roberts realized what was happening when Aspartame was first marketed. He said “his diabetic patients presented memory loss, confusion, and severe vision loss.” At the Conference of the American College of Physicians, doctors admitted that they did not know. They had wondered why seizures were rampant [the phenylalanine in Aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage, and violence].

There is no way that Monsanto, who is also the creator of the highly toxic defoliant Agent Orange, which was used in Vietnam as a part of a herbicidal warfar program, does NOT know the side effects of Aspartame.  They must know the dangers of this toxic asynthetic chemical. 

Monsanto funds the American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association, and the Conference of the American College of Physicians. The New York Times, on November 15, 1996, ran an article on how the American Dietetic Association takes money from the food industry to endorse their products. Therefore, they can not criticize any additives or tell about their link to Monsanto.

Dr. Roberts says “consuming Aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects.” The phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta, causes mental retardation, according to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician Professor of Genetics, at Emory University in his testimony before Congress.

So what are possible alternatives?

Stevia is an herb that has been used as a sweetener in South America for hundreds of years. It is calorie–free, and the powdered concentrate is 300 times sweeter than sugar. It is widely used all over the world. In Japan, for example, it claims 41% of the sweetener market, including sugar, and was used in Japanese Diet Coke until the company replaced it with aspartame to “standardize” worldwide.

Another possibility is Palm Sugar. Palm sugar is a nutrient-rich, low-glycemic crystalline sweetener that looks, tastes, dissolves and melts almost exactly like sugar, but it’s completely natural and unrefined. It’s acquired from the flowers growing high on coconut trees, which are opened to collect their liquid flower nectar. This nectar is then air-dried to form a crystalline sugar that’s naturally brown in color and naturally rich in a number of key vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, including potassium, zinc, iron, and vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6.

It is never refined or bleached like white sugar.  So the nutrients it was made with are still there. That’s rare for sweeteners, most of which are highly refined. Even stevia is highly refined in its white powder form [real stevia is a green herb].

Lastly there is Xylitol, which has been shown to have many health benefits, yet few know of its healing power to prevent ear infections in children. It inhibits bacterial growth thus helping to avoid the use of dangerous antibiotics.

Xylitol is a natural low-calorie, low-glycemic sugar substitute produced from the fibers of fruits, vegetables, and trees such as plums, raspberries, corn, and birch. Xylitol is as sweet as sugar and can be used safely by diabetics. As xylitol is a mild sugar alcohol, excessive consumption over 30 grams per day can cause a temporary laxative effect that disappears with continued use as the body adapts. It is also important to find a source of xylitol that is GMO free if made from corn.

Keep in mind, the best way to avoid illnesses is by avoiding the products that cause them.  After many years of researching Aspartame, I have come to realize this is one of the main engines of disease in our modern food system.

The facts speak for themselves.  Ample evidence abounds for those that care to look.

A myriad of reasons for rampant diseases can be postulated, and I have no doubt that at the center Aspartame will lie as one of the main culprits, as the delectable and stealthy toxin, right in the center assisting Big Pharma with profits carved right from this Devil’s Poison.

One of the main ways one can change health is by changing detrimental habits.  It might not be easy, but it can be done.  I have seen many do it and I have done it myself.

Do your research because your health depends on it.  The sources below are great starting points.
