3 Simple Ways To Streamline Organization | #Time | #TimeManagement | #GettingThingsDone

Organization is something that many struggle with, including myself.  With that in mind, I’ll discuss 3 different simple organizational mindset gems to be kept in mind.

#1 – 2-Minute Rule

The 2-Minute rule is a notion that I picked up in Getting Things Done by David Allen.  Allen is an individual that’s created an organizational mindset in his book that seeks to do exactly what the book’s title is, get things done in a simple and yet streamlined fashion.  Getting Things Done shines due to its simplicity, and although many of the tips and tricks Allen notes are common sense, many people struggle with the implementation of these organization mindset gems because they are treated as individual components to be added and discarded as such, rather than an entire organization mindset paradigm, which is incredibly different.

In any case, what’s the 2-Minute rule?  Simply, this rule means that anything that can be done in 2-Minutes or less, should be done on a regular basis, at least once a day I would venture.  This type of goal-setting can help decrease clutter, streamline organization, and will ultimately lead to a simple way of employing mindfulness when you least expect it [1].

#2 – Put Things Where They Belong In The First Place

This book This rule seems obvious, except almost everyone breaks it at least a couple of times a week, or like me, dozens, if not way more than that, particularly with my poem and writing which is all over the place from notebooks, journals, countless books, notes, index cards, and everything else you can think of [2].  If I can write on it, I will, and the organizational triage center that I lovingly call an “office” is merely a waypoint for destruction and chaos.  Except when I employ this rule.

Though I am struggling with it at the moment, once yourmind set changes and it becomes automatic, you’ll do it effortless and not have to do twice the work, or even risk forgetting where you put your keys in the first place for instance?

Essentially, this rule follows loosely the adage: “Do it right once, or don’t do it at all.”

#3 – Employ Sticky Notes Often & Mercilessly

In Invisible Influence, Kevin Hogan does an exemplary job of showcasing the wide range of methods that can affect an individual’s sphere.  The sticky note, or post-it note, is one of those outside-of-the-box social engineering bits most people wouldn’t consider social engineering, until you realize that such is obvious for the very basis behind the post-it note is to ‘engineer’ how you act towards a certain goal.

It’s use should not be underestimated, because (1) not only is it simple to employ, (2) it is cheap, but more importantly, (3) it works.  Even so, it’s easy to forget, but if you make a habit out of it, much can be gained from

Those are three very easy ways to streamline organization, and the best part is that two of them are free and can save you hours a week if you implement, and oceans of stress you don’t have to deal with it when things are where they should be in the first place.

Do you struggle with organization at all?  Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter!  Feel free to comment below.

You all have a great evening.

An In-Depth Look At The Persuasive Influence Which Can Be Cast Upon Others

In plainspeak, this book regards social engineering, which is a social tool that individuals may employ to influence others or even themselves, to take specific actions.  Admittedly, these actions could be positive or negative depending on the intent of the social engineer.

Though I was unfamiliar with the work of Kevin Hogan in the past, with his execution of this particular book he’s certainly earned my respect.

Invisible Influence is a very pragmatic and easy to follow book that allows people to see part of the wide range that persuasion entails.

At its core, book is essentially split into two parts.   The first part of the book brings about many examples of how subtle ways of social engineering are often employed.  To that end, the fact that the book didn’t overuse technical jargon allows it to flow seamlessly.  And although the book didn’t offer as much source data as I would have appreciated, it’s still constructed in such a way that individuals may draw significant information from it.

Hogan provides ample cogent explanations that followed his many persuasion examples, and these were  top-tier.  Various examples were used to bring about a kaleidoscope of information to provide a stronger fulcrum for the author’s thesis of the invisible influence individuals may have over others and even themselves.

Reading the book, the reader is able to realize how the possibilities of the techniques the book features can certainly multiply to a hitherto unforeseen and incredible extent.  This provides a good segue to venture into the second half of the book.

The second half of the book is composed of 52 techniques that will help an individual become adept at social engineering at an entry level, some of which you can apply to yourself, which was unexpected but appreciated.

Subjectively speaking, this part alone was work the price of the book.  Each of the techniques mentioned follow a stark  methodology that is sure to make proactive mindful individuals cognizant of part of the spectrum that persuasion entails.

Invisible Influence is rousing in its possibilities as it is subtle in its approach.  A great bonus is that the author is candid when making the point of how individuals should be aware of how these influences can shape circumstances for better or worse.

In an age where a certain sect of the population, or certain social groups, are nigh always seeking others to conform, whether they realize it or not, the availability of such information should not be glossed over in any way whatsoever.
