3 Simple Ways To Streamline Organization | #Time | #TimeManagement | #GettingThingsDone

Organization is something that many struggle with, including myself.  With that in mind, I’ll discuss 3 different simple organizational mindset gems to be kept in mind.

#1 – 2-Minute Rule

The 2-Minute rule is a notion that I picked up in Getting Things Done by David Allen.  Allen is an individual that’s created an organizational mindset in his book that seeks to do exactly what the book’s title is, get things done in a simple and yet streamlined fashion.  Getting Things Done shines due to its simplicity, and although many of the tips and tricks Allen notes are common sense, many people struggle with the implementation of these organization mindset gems because they are treated as individual components to be added and discarded as such, rather than an entire organization mindset paradigm, which is incredibly different.

In any case, what’s the 2-Minute rule?  Simply, this rule means that anything that can be done in 2-Minutes or less, should be done on a regular basis, at least once a day I would venture.  This type of goal-setting can help decrease clutter, streamline organization, and will ultimately lead to a simple way of employing mindfulness when you least expect it [1].

#2 – Put Things Where They Belong In The First Place

This book This rule seems obvious, except almost everyone breaks it at least a couple of times a week, or like me, dozens, if not way more than that, particularly with my poem and writing which is all over the place from notebooks, journals, countless books, notes, index cards, and everything else you can think of [2].  If I can write on it, I will, and the organizational triage center that I lovingly call an “office” is merely a waypoint for destruction and chaos.  Except when I employ this rule.

Though I am struggling with it at the moment, once yourmind set changes and it becomes automatic, you’ll do it effortless and not have to do twice the work, or even risk forgetting where you put your keys in the first place for instance?

Essentially, this rule follows loosely the adage: “Do it right once, or don’t do it at all.”

#3 – Employ Sticky Notes Often & Mercilessly

In Invisible Influence, Kevin Hogan does an exemplary job of showcasing the wide range of methods that can affect an individual’s sphere.  The sticky note, or post-it note, is one of those outside-of-the-box social engineering bits most people wouldn’t consider social engineering, until you realize that such is obvious for the very basis behind the post-it note is to ‘engineer’ how you act towards a certain goal.

It’s use should not be underestimated, because (1) not only is it simple to employ, (2) it is cheap, but more importantly, (3) it works.  Even so, it’s easy to forget, but if you make a habit out of it, much can be gained from

Those are three very easy ways to streamline organization, and the best part is that two of them are free and can save you hours a week if you implement, and oceans of stress you don’t have to deal with it when things are where they should be in the first place.

Do you struggle with organization at all?  Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter!  Feel free to comment below.

You all have a great evening.

The title of this blog post stems from the song, Eternity and A Day.  It is a song that takes place in one of the Underworld movies.

At this very moment, I am currently going through my final check up of my poetry book A Kaleidoscope Of Possibilities, and it escaped me that I had written a poem called “Eternity & A Day Will Never Be Enough”.

I mention this because time is something I will always write about, and even think about more so.  Rereading this poem made me realize that no matter how much time I was allotted as an individual, there would never be enough time for me to realize all my dreams.  This sounds rather dismal, but perhaps it’s not.

You might be thinking, “How could NOT achieving all your dreams not be bad?”

Great question, I am very glad you asked.  We are going to employ a binary answer for this.

First, let’s take a slightly different outside-of-the-box point of view.  If every single one of us had more time, what would we do?  We would cram even more things into our schedules and fill it to the hilt.  Say we have 48 hours in the day, what would we do?  We would probably have more goals, dream more, dream bigger, or perhaps not dream at all, perhaps still live life to the same degree we would when we have 24 hours a day not pushing ourselves to our maximum potential.  The point is that, adding more time might only add more work (be it actual work, chasing dreams, etc.), but perhaps not more freedom to accomplish everything, if that makes sense.

My contention is that more time has never been the problem.  The problem stems from not using each minute, each hour, each day, to its maximum potential.  Whether we have 24 hours in a day, or 48 hours in a day, a bad habit in time-management will be a bad habit either way.  Now to my second point.

The possibility, and I say possibility because it’s not a certainty, that we may not achieve all of our dreams is paramount because it should make us appreciate the moments, goals and dreams that we have to a remarkable degree.  For instance, if you knew you had 10 dreams, wouldn’t you spend time chasing those that mean the most?

Having only a certain degree of latitude in life pushes us out of our comfort zones and into consideration of things we might not otherwise feel if we didn’t have any pressure from the clock.

In my personal case, I know that if I had more time, that would just me more goals, more dreams, and so on.  That would be fantastic, but it would never end, which is my anchor in all this.

If an individual is employing imagination to its maximum potential, there will never be enough time for them to accomplish all their dreams, and that’s a good thing because that means they are pushing themselves constantly, instead of say having 2 or 3 goals they might wish to accomplish.

This notion hits me hard because my appreciation for time every passing day grows considerably.  Leave it to a poem to remind me of it.

These thoughts are to help foster rumination of whatever goals individuals may have, and structuring them in a way that helps them gain more out of life.

Now I get back to one of my dreams, and I hope every single one of you do as well.

You all have a stellar evening.

The Artist of society, irrespective of what branch of art they undertake, is a very salient component of life in its full breadth and scope.  So much so that they are one of the pillars upon which society, modern culture, stands.

In fact, with a critical eye towards this notion, James Allen, author of the gem-laden As A Man Thinketh, wrote in his reverberating book on this that:

Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage, these are the makers of the afterworld, the architects of heaven.  The world is beautiful because they have lived; without them, laboring humanity would perish.”[3]

The idea of humanity perishing without The Artist might seem outlandish at first blush, but maybe not.  Perhaps the notion is best thought under the guise that, humanity as it currently stands, would perish.  This would mean that humanity and life itself, without the appreciation for what makes life great via The Artists, would be akin to an individual experiencing life without joy.

Removing art in its every form would be removing one of the strands of life that makes it great, one of the very strands of life that makes it pleasurable, exciting, inspiring and incredibly meaningful to experience.

This shows how paramount The Artist is to the human condition, to human life, to society as a whole.  Likewise, this also showcases why imagination and dreamers are so important.  This is because:

“The dreamers are the saviors of the world.  As the visible world is sustained by the invisible, so men, throughout all their trials and sins and sordid vocations, are nourished by the beautiful visions of the solitary dreamers.  Humanity cannot forget its dreamers; it cannot let their ideals fade and die; it lives in them; it knows them as the realities which it shall one day see and know.”[4][Italics In Original, Bold Emphasis Added]

This is why appreciating the inherent ability of human potential cannot be overstatedWhat inspires individuals should not only be appreciated but held in high regard, for it is the fuel that lights the fires of the phenomenal, it is the engine that drives people’s motivation to achieve great things.

With these thoughts in mind, as an individual, you should consider to:

“Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.”[5]

Stay true to them, stay true to you, stay true to your course, your journey.

The power of dreams shouldn’t be looked at askance, as most of modern society does.  Those that seek to trap an individual’s imagination are merely conforming to the very system that aims to do just that, and they are conforming without a second thought.

Of utmost important is the fact that:

The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream.  The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs.  Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”[6][Bold & Underline Emphasis Added.]

Every dream requires a vision, every dream requires imagination. Where one goes, the other one follows.

Nothing paints a better future upon the canvas of life than The Artist.

Nothing can, and nothing will – The Artist Is Forever.
